The Way of the Cross
Above our little pueblo is a hill with a staircase that climbs straight up it. It will take your breath for sure, until you get used to the altitude.
On the morning of Holy Saturday, people from the town, mostly youth, along with Padre Rene and some deacons, climbed the hill carrying a wooden cross, and stopping 14 times to pray the Stations of the Cross in Quechua.
The people also carried food. Pots of potatoes, corn, rice, and other things I couldn't easily identify, all to share with everyone else at the foot of the cross at the top of the hill. People gathered around the aguayos (blankets they use to carry everything on their backs) and reached in with their fingers to partake in the bounty that each had helped to bare.
