La Paz

During a little excusion last week we found ourselves in one of the highest cities in the world. La Paz rests in this valley at 4400 metres (about 13000 feet or so). Illimani, the mountain in the background is 2000 metres (more than 6000 feet) higher than the city. Truly spectacular. Just south of La Paz is Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), where there are amazing rock formations similar to the Badlands of South Dakota. The feel of the city is very different than Cochabamba, but the indigenous presence is still very prominent, and the love of Bolivia is in the air. And every day I feel it more strongly.
